Mission

THE FUND HELPS DEFRAY THE COSTS OF STAGING NEW ORLEANS SECOND LINE PARADES. THE NEW ORLEANS SECOND LINE IS THE ONLY FULLY INDIGENOUS NON-COMMERCIAL AMERICAN JAZZ CULTURE, A CULTURAL TRADITION UNIQUE IN ALL THE WORLD. THE GROUPS SEEK NO INCOME, SELL NO TICKETS, AND MAKE THEIR PARADES FREE TO ALL. THE ENORMOUS COSTS REQUIRED TO HOLD THESE PARADES INCLUDE BRASS BANDS, HANDSEWN COSTUMES AND NEW ORLEANS POLICE ESCORTS. THESE COSTS CONSTITUTE A PERSONAL HARDSHIP ON THE MEMBERS OF THESE SOCIETIES. THE ORGANIZATION HELPS DEFRAY THESE COSTS.
